This policy explains how Electrotek (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, stores and protects personal information when you use this website and trade with us. We process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”).
Responsible party: Electrotek (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2021/698103/07), Mossel Bay Multicenter, 6 Bolton Road, Mossel Bay, 6506. Contactable at info@electrotek.co.za / 044 271 5030.
1What we collect
- Account and identity data — your name, business name, email address, telephone number, and customer account details, collected when you register or use an account.
- Transaction data — orders, quotes, carts, invoices, delivery addresses, payment references and account/credit status.
- Technical data — the session cookie needed to keep you signed in, and standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) used for security and troubleshooting.
We do not collect or store your card details — online payments are processed directly by Paystack.
2Why we process it
- To operate your account: authentication, account pricing, carts, quotes and orders.
- To fulfil contracts: processing orders, arranging delivery, invoicing and statements.
- To manage credit: assessing and administering credit terms and collecting amounts due.
- To meet legal obligations, including tax and accounting record-keeping.
- To secure and improve the site, including fraud prevention and diagnostics.
- To send you service communications about your orders and account. We will only send marketing communications where permitted by POPIA and section 45 of ECTA, and every such message will include an opt-out.
4Security and retention
- We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed session tokens and access controls.
- We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, and thereafter as required by law — for example, financial records are retained for the periods prescribed by tax legislation.
- If a data breach occurs that affects your personal information, we will notify the Information Regulator and affected data subjects as required by section 22 of POPIA.
5Your rights
Under POPIA you may, at any time:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and request a copy;
- ask us to correct or delete personal information that is inaccurate or no longer necessary;
- object to processing, including for direct marketing;
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforegulator.org.za / enquiries@inforegulator.org.za.
To exercise any of these rights, contact our Information Officer at info@electrotek.co.za. We may ask for proof of identity before acting on a request.
6Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time; the current version will always be published on this page with its “last updated” date. This policy should be read together with our Terms & Conditions.
